Ampleur Appaloosa Stud

In October of 1983 I was showing my boxer dogs at the Geelong Agricultural Show, (Victoria), and a woman approached me and introduced herself, Merilyn, she lived not far from me. To cut a long story short, we swapped services, Rocky and Cassie had a lovely litter of pups and Spotty and Skye had a lovely colt foal, and Merilyn and I are still friends.

I bought my first Appaloosa in 1984 and had my first Appaloosa foal born later that year and have never looked back since.

Having shown dogs and various horses in the English scene, I naturally started showing my Appaloosas in Western Shows, it took me a bit to get used to all that gear: western shirts, hats, boots, chaps and buckles etc. I really liked the casualness of the people, their eagerness to help and the friendliness, and so I am still showing today.

In the 80’s and 90’s I was breeding five or six foals a year, mainly using my stallion, Northbound Goers Dude. Sadly at the age of fourteen, he was kicked by a mare, fractured his leg and had to be put down.

In January 2001 I moved to Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. I sold quite a few horses before the move, but still managed to bring 10 horses up with me.

I left my current show horse and 2 yearlings with trainer and friend Raelene Gilboy, and she continues to break and train for me. Our best result to date has been my The Test Of Time (imp USA) filly: Ampleur Just In Time.

I am only breeding one or two foals a year now. But I think I will always own an Appaloosa, in general they have the easiest going temperament, I love the way I can just go down the paddock, catch one of my horses, and ride, without having to worry about lunging or bucking problems.
